Naimisharanya is an important pilgrimage in India. It is located in District Sitapur at a distance of approx. 80 Kms from the State capital Lucknow. It is located on the left bank of the river Gomti.

Naimisharanya, also known as Neemsar, Nimsar is a pilgrimage dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in Sitapur district, in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The temple is counted as one of the eight temples of Vishnu that self-manifested and is classified as Swayamvyaktha Kshetra. The holy tank Chankra Kunda is associated with the temple and it is a pilgrimage centre where people take a holy dip during festive occasions. According to the  Hindu Mythology, river Gomti is considered to be the daughter of Sage Vashishtha. After visiting various temples at Naimish, the pilgrims take a dip at the Holy river of Gomti, as a part of the Hindu rituals. The Holy dip is taken at the Raj Ghat & the Dashashwamedh Ghat.

On vising & surveying the Raj Ghat, it was found that the pilgrims flock to this ghat during Amavasya and various other Hindu festivals all year round, including the month of Phalgun near Holi. A gathering of approx. 15000- 20,000 per day is expected during snaan at various festivals. Considering the massive footfall of pilgrims, the existing facilities are inadequate and demands a major infrastructure & development to be urgently taken up. This will cater to a large number of pilgrims converging here from the various parts of the country.
